Pride, Progress & Transformation

From Equality South West

The South West Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual (LGB) and Transgender (Trans) Equality Networks have come together to launch "Pride, Progress & Transformation", a research project designed to identify the real issues for LGB and Trans people living, working and visiting the South West.  With the support of Equality South West (ESW) and Poole Council, the Networks devised a survey to give LGB and Trans people an opportunity to have their say.

The survey was launched on 30th January 2010 and remained open until 30th June 2010.  A total of 362 responses were received, highlighting the views and experiences of contributors who varied widely in terms of their characteristics and circumstances.  The interim findings of the research were shared at a regional event in Taunton on 17th May 2010.  A copy of the presentation detailing the results at that point can be found here.

The research results will be separated to form two reports (one on Sexual Orientation and one on Transgender).  It was hoped that the final reports would be available in October 2010, however a run of unforeseen circumstances has meant that the reports cannot be finalised and published until early 2011.  The reports will be available to download for free.

The reports will provide a much needed insight in to the issues faced by LGB and Trans people in the South West, at a time when The Equality Act aligns LGB and Trans issues with the other protected characteristics.  We recognise that there is not a wealth of evidence and information out there about the needs and issues of LGB and Trans people, and so it is hoped that the results of this research will go some way to bridging that gap.
