Pride, Progress & Transformation
The South West Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual (LGB) and Transgender (Trans) Equality Networks have come together to launch "Pride, Progress & Transformation", a research project designed to identify the real issues for LGB & Trans people living, working and visiting the South West. With the support of Equality South West (ESW) and Poole Borough Council, the Networks have devised a survey to give LGB & Trans people an opportunity to have their say.
The Survey - AVAILABLE NOW
The survey is available to complete now and will remain so until midday on 31st March 2010. All individuals who take part in the survey will be able to do so anonymously. Any information given will be treated in the strictest confidence and no individuals will be identifiable at any stage of the research.
Individuals who complete the survey will be eligible to be entered in to a free prize draw. Up for grabs are many exciting prizes including paint ball tickets, training vouchers and cash prizes!
To enable as many individuals as possible to take part, and in particular those people with visual impairments or learning difficulties, ESW are offering confidential, over the phone support. To organise a time to speak to an ESW colleague, please contact Diana Blake on 01823 250836 or email Diana.Blake@equalitysouthwest.org.uk.
The survey is available to complete online, alternatively you may request a hard copy to be returned via a freepost envelope by contacting Diana Blake on 01823 250836 or email Diana.Blake@equalitysouthwest.org.uk.

Launch Event - 17th May 2010
The results of the surveys and discussions at the focus groups will be collated to form two distinct reports looking at the key issues for LGB and Trans people in the region separately. The reports will be launched on 17th May 2010 at a regional event held at Somerset College, Taunton to coincide with IDOHOT Day (International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia).
The programme will include speakers from key organisations working in the area of LGB & Trans Equality. Organisations such as Stonewall, GIRES, the Government Equalities Office and the Equality & Human Rights Commission will be invited to present. There will also be an opportunity to hear about good practice examples from within the South West. Workshops will be based on key themes arising from the survey responses and focus group discussions and led by LGB and Trans individuals and organisations. The workshops will provide a final opportunity for individuals to feed in to the final reports.
- Full details and a booking form for this event will be available in March 2010. Until then, please add this important date to your diary and if you have any queries please contact Diana Blake at Equality South West on 01823 250836 or email Diana.Blake@equalitysouthwest.org.uk.
Research Report
- The final report will be made available ASAP after the 17th May launch event. It will be accessible via the ESW website at no cost. It is hoped that Pride, Progress & Transformation will be invaluable to organisations from all sectors, in anticipation of the Equality Bill and the changes it will bring about in aligning LGB & Trans issues with the other equality strands. We recognise that there is not a wealth of evidence and information out there about the needs and issues of LGB & Trans people, and so it is hoped that the results of this research will go some way to bridging that gap. If you would like any further information about Pride, Progress & Transformation, including the survey, focus groups, launch event or final report, please contact:Diana Blake (Administrative Assistant)
