Disability
The Southwest Disability Equality Network was launched in 2004. It is a forum of and for disabled people in the region. It represents organisations of disabled people as well as mainstream organisations working on disability equality.
The Disability Rights Commission and Equality South West hosted an event on Thursday, 28th September 2006, Taunton. The event was for Disabled people who are:
- Active members of disability organisations
- Local activists who are currently or might want to be involved with local or national public bodies & their Disability Equality Schemes
The aim of the event was to:
· Increased awareness of the Disability Equality Duty (DED)
· I ndividual and group involvement in the development and implementation of Disability Equality Schemes
· Increased confidence in methods of and processes for the involvement of disabled people
· Focussed on practical steps for onward involvement at either national or local level

Conference on new duty to promote Disibility equality
The Network hosted a conference on the new duty to promote Disibility equality within the public sector on June 6th 2006.
