Happy New Year!

From Equality South West

The ESW team is back from a refreshing break filled with family and fun and we hope you are too.

We are looking forward to the challenges that 2012 will surely present us all, but most of all we are looking forward to supporting our partners and communities to promote equality in this new world we find ourselves in.

Some key developments to watch out for this year include:

  • Public Bodies with 150 or more staff publishing their workforce data by 31st January - who's responsible for delivering your public services?

  • Parental leave increasing from three to four months from March - will all organisations comply?

  • Organisations will have to publish their Equality Objectives in April - keep an eye out to see what your local service providers will be prioritising, we will be!

  • The Government Equalities Office will be commissioning a new information and advice line to replace the EHRC's Helpline.

  • And of course we'll see new budget cuts being made and feel the pressure of decisions made last year - we want to make sure that every decision is analysed for its impact on equality before it is taken.

A lot changed last year and we spent much of our time keeping up with all the changes and what they mean for us as well as our stakeholders. This year, we'll be focussing on sharing our understanding, helping to identify ways to address the issues and taking opportunities to promote equality wherever we can.

From ESW to you - good luck and remember we are Stronger Together.

Katie
