South West RDA Equality Project
In April 2008 the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) commissioned Equality South West (ESW) to deliver an 18 month project to improve the mainstreaming of equality and diversity principles throughout the SWRDA and its delivery partners.
The main aims of the project are to:
• Develop a robust Equality Impact Assessment process for use within the SWRDA
• Support and administer Regional Equality Networks to assist the SWRDA in delivering its Disability, Gender and Race Equality Schemes
• Work with Business Link and other partners to help them mainstream equality and diversity in their delivery
• Provide information and advice to SWRDA on equality and diversity issues
• Provide support to small and medium sized enterprises to mainstream equality and diversity in their business and employment practices
In order to deliver these aims the SWRDA Equality Project team have developed contacts with local and regional support organisations and groups, in particular those working with people from under-represented groups.
ESW have also undertaken research with the Regional Equality Networks to identify barriers experienced by equality groups in the provision of business support, employment, and Board Membership within the SWRDA.

Equality & Diversity Information Sessions for SWRDA funded bodies
On 25th February and 12th March 2009, ESW facilitated an interactive equality and diversity information session for bodies funded by the SWRDA. The sessions delved in to what is meant by equality and diversity, discrimination, current legislation and practical steps that SWRDA partners can take to ensure that they are adopting a positive approach to equality and diversity. The sessions also provided information and advice around the Public Duties and the responsibilities of SWRDA funded organisations.
